Fashionable Interiors

People are always saying that interior design is influenced by fashion, but these days I feel like it's the other day around...

Interior Designer: 1940s Home by Angie Hranowsky

angie hranowsky living room daybed
Inviting interiors with layered patterns, pops of modern and a pinch of vintage. This is what comes to mind when I think of  interior designs by Angie Hranowsky of South Carolina. The graphic designer, turned decorator overnight when images of her home graced the pages of Metropolitan Home.  Most recently, a 1940s home decorated by Angie was featured in the May/June issue of Lonny. I live in ranch home built in 1940, so I really enjoyed seeing what she created. Here are just some of the images of the stylishly eclectic, relaxed, yet sophisticated design.

{above & below: these images of the little girl’s bedroom is one of my favorite. Perhaps it’s how the pink and tangerine toile wallcovering brilliantly hides the angles in the ceiling, the pops of black accent in the playful zebra rug and drum shades on the vintage bedside lamps or the repurposed love-seat surrounded by vintage lighting.}

Angie does an amazing job of making the spaces she designs approachable and comfortable. I loved her advice in Lonny on making every room livable:

Also, if you haven’t already, be sure to drop by Lonny to see their latest issue. It's a treat.

Decorating Ideas Using Maps

Maps show us where we have been and where we are headed. They teach us about the past and let us dream about the future. The graphic qualities maps possess make them perfect décor for the home. Here are some wonderful spaces and products that feature maps:

Lovely Louise

I've gushed on the blog many-a-time about Walnut Wallpaper, LA's best wallpaper one-stop-shop. Amazing Selection + Interesting Unique Goodies + Helpful Staff = Very Loyal Customers.

Recently, they introduced me to the work of Louise Body, an amazing artist and designer who not only creates these beauties {wallpapers and fabrics}, but also adds watercolor hand touches to the wallpapers before they are shipped off. The overall feel is vintage yet hip and updated. So in love, I might need to find a way to use one of her fabrics in my bedroom... {starting my re-design next week!}

Her birdie wallpapers and fabrics are sweet and lovely.

And her vintage inspired lace pattern leaves me speechless. Her mock-up of the drapery is adorable!

Fab Florals

I'm seeing fabulous florals all over the place. Fashion, home goods... and these aren't the horrible florals of the 80's (the Laura Ashley years) - they are fresh and new and gorgeous!

I got some gorgeous brochures in the mail from Osborne & Little (my favorite showroom) - these florals jumped out as my favorites.

The huge floral print is genius on this settee.

Floral wallpaper by Christian Lacroix. Yum.

Up close and delicious.

Found It (Hopefully!)

If you've been reading regularly in the past two weeks, you know I've been on a mission to find the perfect patterned wallpaper for a client's dining room.

I think we've got it!

LACED by Flavor Paper. On the ceiling.

It comes in these four gorgeous colors - though they can do custom too.

Peony on white mica would be genius in a little girl's room...
Lace was huge on Oscar dresses this year - now I'm obsessed with it for the home!

Innovative & Eco-friendly Wallcoverings by Lori Weitzner

linen magnetic wallcovering wallpaper weitzner
It was love at first sight. I was first introduced to Lori Weitzner’s artful wallcoverings at the San Francisco Design Center last October when Veranda presented their 2010 Art of Design Awards: Timelessness & Innovation. Lori was one of six design industry “trailblazers” honored with the award.

In 2004, Lori launched New York-based firm, Weitzner Limited to explore textiles and wallcoverings made with a combination of ancient and modern materials. The award winning line blends exceptional design with unexpected materials – all while being environmentally conscious.  For example, Weitzner’s Magnetism wallcovering {above} combines beauty & sophistication with functionality & versatility. Magnets can be placed directly on the linen surface and can be changed or removed easily leaving a pristine and unmarked backdrop. Simply brilliant!

thin natural stone wallcovering wallpaper
Love the look of natural stone? Weitzner again delivers an innovative product – Quarry from the Nature Collection. It’s a remarkably flexible paperbacked layer of stone that offers all the varied color and texture of the rock, but delivers the same ease of installation as paper. Yes, it’s natural stone!

denim jeans wallcovering designer
We all have our favorite pair of jeans and love the way they feel. Weitzner brilliantly takes casual and comfortable denim in classic indigo and creates this paperbacked textile wallcovering. Perfect for a boy’s room, home office or family room.

recycled paper design for screens wallcovering lamps
Not all of Weitzner’s creations are applied to the walls. In Apropos collection, Lori continues her search for sustainable and organic materials. Shown above, Currents is handmade using pressed paper from renewable and recyclable mulberry and salago fibers. I love the texture and pattern. And its applications are endless... as a room divider, screen or perhaps used as a wall treatment?

Fabulous don't you think?
